I can't get factories to update based on inputed resource
TinyPirate · Aug 2, 2026
I'm setting up a production chain and I want to feed it max ore - and I've set the precise numbe of machines I want in each step, but the factory doesn't seem to "respect' my choices. Even though 600 ore is available, and I've told it to put it into 8 smelters, only 4.46 are counted. I've said I want 3 alt iron wire (accepted) and 2 alt iron pipes (not accepted), and from there I can't tell if the numbers are correct any more. Kinda annoying. https://pioneertoolbox.com/planner/s/MoGQ85Txo1E-wG0x_FHllA

Thanks for the share link, it made this easy to check, and your numbers are exactly what the solver computes. The planner is demand-pull: a machine count is a ceiling, and every machine runs at what its consumers actually take. In your factory the binding constraint is the Iron Wire limit (3): the wire machines run 3.00 of 3, and Motor/Rotor/Stator's red dots all say "capped by the machine limit on Iron Wire". The smelters sit at 4.46 because nothing downstream can take more ingots. To lift the whole line, raise the Iron Wire limit; to run all 8 smelters regardless, wire the ingot or wire surplus into a Sink or Container so it has somewhere to go. Closing as working-as-intended, but this taught me the model needs explaining better, it's going in the wiki.
